Oscar Winning Actor, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment. Hoffman, 46, was pronounced dead on his bathroom floor with a needle in his arm. Two bags of what appeared to be heroin were found in the apartment. Hoffman was last seen alive on Saturday night and was supposed to pick up his children on Sunday but didn’t show up. Some friends went to his apartment to visit him and found him dead. A recent rash of deaths in the New York areas have been linked to heroin laced with pain medication fentanyl, the mix of the two has caused a couple of dozen deaths in New York and Pennsylvania. It is unclear at this point if Hoffman’s death can be linked to that particular strain of Heroin
Hoffman won an Academy Award for Best Actor in the film “Capote” in which he played author Truman Capote. He also had acclaimed roles in “Boogie Nights”, “Magnolia” “Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead” and “Almost Famous”. Hoffman could most recently be seen as the Game Master in Hunger Games, Catching Fire” and had a film “In God’s Pocket” yet be released. Besides his film career Hoffman was in several plays including a recent revival of “Death of A Salesman”.
Hoffman was the type of actor who could bring out the humanity in characters that were complex and deeply flawed. Hoffman left behind his life partner Mimi O’Donnell and three children.
