By The Prophet of Life
Today, while I was in my garden at the sanctuary, the place I live, I saw a few dozen hummingbird moths buzzing around and feeding on the nectar of flowers in one of the bushes there. Hummingbird moths are brightly colored insects about the size of a baby humming bird. They stay in flight and fly similarly to a helicopter just like hummingbirds do.
As I stood close to the bush, the moths buzzed all about me, feeding right in front of me as if I wasn’t there. One was flying within inches of my nose. I leaned in towards him from behind my shallow breath creating a mist that gently passed over his back. He continued feeding as if I wasn’t there.
The feeling was so magical, standing there among dozens of beautiful moths the size of a small hummingbird, enjoying the tranquility of the moment and participating with them in spirit. Things like this happen to me all the time in the sanctuary but I always marvel at them when they do. I also remember the mountain lion that befriended me there, but that story is for another time.
