Marin County California- The entertainment industry was shocked at the sudden death of Academy Award Winning Actor Comedian Robin Williams. Williams died in his home of asphyxiation. Preliminary investigators are calling it a suicide. Williams was candid about his long time battles with alcohol and cocaine addiction.
Williams rocketed to fame as an alien in the Happy Days TV show spin-off Mork & Mindy. He starred in many films and was adept at both comedy and drama. His best remembered film comedy roles included Good Morning Vietnam and Mrs. Doubtfire. He was nominated for an Academy Award four times, all for dramatic roles. His best known dramatic roles included Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting, for which he won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Besides his Oscar, Williams won two Emmys for his work in television. He also won six Grammy awards, 5 for best comedy album and one for best spoken word album.
Williams was also one of the three principal comics along with Billy Crystal and Whoppi Goldberg) behind the charity Comic Relief, which began as a series of telethon to raise funds to help the homeless in America. Since 1986 the charity has raised over $50,000,000 to help homeless people.
Williams did a stint in rehab about a month ago. His publicist stated that he had been battling severe depression in the weeks before his death. Robin Williams was 63.
