Did you ever wonder about the kid in the back of the class? The one who rarely talks. The one that may even seem creepy to some. Did you ever wonder what he’s thinking about? Did you ever wonder how he feels? He has something to contribute. He has never been given the chance. Do you think he likes being judged as having nothing worthwhile to say?
Yet day after day he just sits there staring blankly but listening intently. You rarely give him a second thought. You assume he is stupid. You treat him like he’s a numbskull or even worse, like he doesn’t exist at all. Don’t you think that he has feelings too?
Would it hurt your reputation, your precious peer ranking to risk sitting next to him one day and trying to talk to him? He may be shy at first but maybe if you got to know him you would find he did have something to offer. Maybe you’d find that he did have a brain and that he had a sense of humor.
But no, you continue to chatter away with your friends. You walk past him on the street like he’s a ghost. You go on with your pretty little life. While he is trapped in the back of the room of life, imprisoned in his shyness.
