8 of the 10 men convicted in a conspiracy to murder Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai and sentenced to life in prison, have been expunged of their crime and released from prison. A Pakistani Anti-Terrorism Court ruled that although there was irrefutable proof that the two other men were involved in the attempted murder. There was no clear evidence linking the other eight men. The men were arrested in September 2014.
Malala Yousafzai, is an advocate for equal education for both males and females in Pakistan. The Taliban had been closing schools that allowed females to be educated. When a school had been reopened, Malala defiantly boarded a school bus. The bus was boarded by a gunman who shot Malala in the head.
Malala survived the assassination attempt and used her notoriety to advocate for her cause on an international level, even speaking before the United Nations. She was awarded the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her unwavering advocacy.
