You may have never heard of him but chances are, you know something he designed. Kenji Ekuan designed many things; He designed tools and lunchboxes, audio equipment, motorcycles (like Yamaha’s VMAX) and even Japan’s bullet train. One of his most famous and practical designs is the Kikkoman soy sauce bottle. The iconic bottle with its drip less red cap didn’t exist before he invented it in 1961.
A survivor of the Hiroshima nuclear attack which hastened the end of WW II, Kenji lost cherished family members, his home but resolved to create things. He created things for over 50 years and the world has been enhanced by his designs. Kenji died just the other day, the victim of a heart attack. He was 85.
